What is a Koi Pond Koi no? A pond! Now that is boring ...

Many customers who want a waterfall and a koi pond koi do not want to care. In fact, a pond will require less attention than fish without it. If a koi pond has a waterfall to aerate the water, koi fish produce waste that decompose by nitrifying bacteria into nitrate nitrogen, and water plants use the nitrogen and prosper. In turn, koi fish eat the algae and small water insects living in the rocks and plant roots. And the smallest mistakes they eat other insects that eat microscopic bugs that eat bad bacteria bugs. This is called the nitrogen cycle. A koi pond properly balanced these characteristics rather take care of himself.

Koi fish food can get housed in the plants, rocks and vegetation around the perimeter of the koi pond. If the koi fish can find food, but simply disintegrate, adding nitrates unnecessary water and resulting in more food for algae to grow. To eliminate this problem fashion that what I'm like a fish Koi Food Corral made of a piece of 4 to 5 feet of 1-1/2 "flexible PVC pipe and covered with a single hook 1-1/2 inches, creating a circular corral.

This keeps the food koi in a corral, and keeps afloat in crevices of rocks, plants or the skimmer. In addition to allowing adequate food portioning koi. It's easy to tell if you have given koi fish too. If the food is still there after a few minutes and koi fish seem to have had enough, they have, and must remove the remains. Put it in the sun to dry and feed them later. It's easy to pick up leftover food that koi do not eat fish using a small network. It is better to feed them very little too. In a case like this, more is not better.

Sometimes my clients initially expressed concern that the koi would be a burden or a nuisance. They worry about having to feed them every day, or what to do when going on vacation. I would explain that the koi are very important with respect to its contribution to the nitrogen cycle. The nitrogen cycle is what makes a koi pond, low maintenance and almost self-sufficient.

While only the shares of the koi pond with small fish like guppies and mosquito fish, you'll never need to be fed. They exist only on food that the pond provides naturally.

A chlorinated lagoon, however, requires continuous maintenance. The chlorine dissipates from the water flowing over the falls and turns into chlorine gas. This means that fresh chlorine should be added regularly and your backyard to smell like a swimming pool all the time. Chlorine also causes many minerals and suspended particles that precipitate and accumulate on the rocks, causing unsightly white patches on the water route.

When chlorine is not added regularly, decaying leaves and debris in the pond will cause algae to grow, making the green lagoon. So after convincing the customer to give my suggestion a try, I returned a couple of weeks later to find that they have not only acquired some large koi fish, but have given them all the cute names, like Charlie and Doug.

We do that larger fish such as koi, the nitrogen cycle needs a little help from a biological filter and ultraviolet light. The greater the number and size of fish koi, the larger the waste material produced. This means that some water must be removed. Larger amounts of nitrite and nitrate increase the amount of ammonia and other products derivatives, such as pea soup algae, the kind that turns the water green. A biological filter aid in the decomposition of toxic nitrite into less harmful nitrates, and an ultraviolet light eliminates algae spores and disease-causing pathogens as they pass through the UV light on the way to the filter.

So what more can I say to convince to get the fish? They are fun to watch? They are cute? They are useful in times of famine? Fish have? Turtles are you? Tadpoles have? No? Then get some! The pond will be much more attractive and exciting. It's like having the Learning Channel or Discovery Channel in their backyard.

Every day brings a new discovery fry hatching, a dragonfly fight its cocoon, a tadpole slowly, very slowly, becoming a frog, two crayfish, doing what they do for baby crabs ... Now that is a discovery! A turtle, shedding its shell ... Now that is a miracle. If you have children or grandchildren, or children the neighborhood, take all or some of them and make an adventure. Stack them in the car or bus to go to the local pond store and pick up a handful of pond creatures predators and peculiar. Better yet - building a Koi Pond and then do it.

Koi happy, peace and joy.
